I just finished my 3-day Jus by Julie cleanse last night and thought I would tell you guys a little bit about my experience! We’ve had quite a few patients ask about juicing and overall ways to detox the body. There are tons of options out there, this is just one brand that I have tried twice and really liked!
The whole reasoning behind a juice cleanse is to detox your body of impurities, help reset your digestive system, and regulate normal bodily functions that may have gotten out of whack from a lack of a healthy diet. I knew my body needed to detox last week. I was feeling sluggish at work, not sleeping well at night, we ate a few horrible meals and my body was screaming for a change.
I ordered my Jus by Julie cleanse through Groupon and got a great discount. You can pick when you want it delivered and can schedule your week around the cleanse. It is so convenient from there. You get 6 drinks a day, all numbered 1-6 so you know what order to go in. That’s it, no food for three days, just juice and water. The first time I did this cleanse I felt great. I had a ton of energy, slept like a baby, and really loved it. This past weekend was a little different. (Which tells me I wasn’t taking care of myself this winter)
I really was exhausted the first two days of the cleanse. I had a mild headache the entire time (probably from cutting out coffee). I also slept A LOT, which I probably needed. Once day 3 rolled around I was definitely feeling better. I had more energy than in a long time and was excited to get up and head into the office. I finished my last few juices up before bed last night and was out like a light!
You’re probably wondering what now? Do you just go back to eating junk food and do another cleanse in a month to clear it out? NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Next on my agenda is what is called a Whole 30. It stems from the book “It Starts with Food” by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig. (Awesome book, everyone should read it and learn how to eat with it and bonus, the Paw Paw District Library does have it in circulation). The concept of a Whole 30 is to only eat real food for thirty days. No sugar, no alcohol (no wine ahhhhhhh), no dairy, no grains, no legumes. Just high quality lean meats, vegetables, fruit, and healthy fats and oils. This can help you get away from the constant processed food that we eat because it’s quick and tastes good. Real food tastes amazing, you just have to get your taste buds back to normal to realize it. Sugar single-handedly is killing us all.  It feeds bacteria, cancer cells, inflammation, and pretty much every other chronic illness out there. I am guilty of it too so don’t feel bad. It’s everywhere in today’s society and if we want to help ourselves and our youth we have to start eating real food. I’m hoping my Whole 30 experience will inspire some of you to try it as well with your family. I have a whole list of areas I hope my body improves on through this and I will keep you posted along the way! Throughout the book, there are testimonials from real people who did a Whole 30 and had amazing results. Let food be your medicine. Eat only things that come from Mother Nature and not a factory. Whether you have serious health concerns or just want to feel better, join me in this path of a healthier you!
Once your Whole 30 is complete, the Hartwigs spell out in the book how to slowly start reintroducing those other foods back into your diet. You start with legumes, see how you feel, then move on to gluten free grains (corn, quinoa, brown rice) and then move into dairy and gluten. You can find exactly which foods are causing your issues and then you know, stop eating them! Some people love how they feel on the 30 so much that they just continue that lifestyle. The Whole 30 website is a great place to find encouragement, recipes, grocery lists, and support if you are interested in doing some more research! As always, if you have questions about my experience feel free to ask! I’m an open book! Have a happy and healthy day!
